4 Questions To Ask Yourself When Setting 2024 Goals
As the new year approaches, many business owners are starting to think about their 2024 goals and where they want to take their business in the months ahead.
However, it’s easy to set arbitrary goals that don’t truly end up moving the needle in your business or making an impact.
For example, if your goal is to grow on social media – but you have no real way of converting followers into sales or monetizing your audience – it’s unlikely that goal is going to mean anything this time next year.
So rather than set a bunch of goals that don’t serve you – we’re going to walk you through 4 questions to ask yourself when setting your goals so you end up seeing results and feeling a tangible impact on your business.
Don’t Set Your Goals Without Asking These Questions
Setting goals for your new year is important, but setting the RIGHT goals is even more important. Ask yourself these four questions before you set goals…
1 – If I only accomplish one goal in my business next year – what would it be?
When setting goals, start by zooming out to your broadest goal. In most businesses, this has to do with your revenue goal for the year ahead. For others, this has to do with selling the business or getting acquired. Whatever the goal is – this should be the broadest, most important goal you have for the year ahead.
2 – How can I break this big goal down into three simple steps?
Now, take that big goal and start to break it down into smaller goals. In other words – what three simple steps do you need to take to make that goal a reality?
If we use a life example, your goal might be to buy a new house next year. However, you can’t just go out one day and buy the house in a snap. You need to find a realtor, go on tours, get your finances in order, etc.
These smaller steps will be the building blocks you focus on day-to-day or month-to-month and will get you closer to that large goal little by little.
3 – Are there any goals I have that are based on vanity rather than results?
There’s nothing wrong with having goals based on vanity, but it’s important to separate those from goals that have to do with revenue and needle-moving business activities.
For example – let’s say you aim to be a guest on 10 podcasts next year. That’s a great goal – but it’s important to determine if that’s attached to a business KPI or if it’s because you want to have that experience as an entrepreneur.
There’s no shame either way – this just helps you clarify what goals stand alone and what goals are tied to other business initiatives.
4 – Are my goals clear and detailed enough to delegate?
Whether you’re delegating to your team or working with an agency like Lawson House, it’s important your goals are clear enough to delegate. You cannot delegate a broad goal like, “I want to grow my audience.” However, you can delegate a detailed goal like, “I want to increase my website traffic and convert 10% of website visitors into leads through my free download.”
Go through each goal with a fine-toothed comb and make sure anyone reading it can understand exactly what you’re getting at.
